The relationship between text and spoken language(essay)

The language relationship between text language and spoken language is that there are many similarities between between them. If you compare how you speak to how you text is usually very similar.

When you compare your speaking to your texting, you may notice that many things are the similar or maybe even the same. Things like the words you use, the way you text may be the same as the way you would say something and another feature could be that if you have an accent it might show up in your texting. These things will probably show up in your texting because its part of who you are and its the way you communicate. Texting is usually informal so that is another reason why you might use slang that you might use when you are communicating to your friends. Another thing that is informal in texting is abbreviations like “LOL” for example.

One thing that is used in spoken language and text language is omission. Omission is used in texting very often. You may realise you do it, but normally you wont realise you do it, because it comes naturally to you. It might come naturally to you because its the way you normally talk to people, that is a reason why omission would show up in your texting. Omission is used quite a lot in speaking and texting, but more often used in texting because if you use omission in a text it is quicker to type but still really easy to understand for example “What you doing?” It gets rid of the extra words like “are” but it still makes sense. If you listen to a normal conversation you have, you probably will probably hear omission being using at some point. Even when you’re talking you will use omission like “You coming football today?”.

Emojis. Emojis represent facial expressions. So in a spoken conversation you would use your facial expressions to show how you are saying something and also show your emotions. But if you are texting you cant see peoples facial expressions so instead you use an emoji because your emotions and shows how something is being said, for example “shut up” if you add a laughing or smile emoji on the end it will show that you are not being serious just like how if you were talking your facial expressions would show how you are saying it. Emojis are the same as paralinguistic features.

Another feature in texting and speaking is the words you use. The range of words that you use in texting might be the same as when you speak. For example
